Luckily for me, there’s the Burnout series - particularly Burnout 3: Takedown Burnout isn’t exactly a simulation, but it’s not a wacky kart racer either. But as far as actual racing, with real cars? As much as I’d love to understand the brilliance and technical grandeur that goes into every Gran Turismo title, putting the controller in my hands with a racing sim in my hand makes me feel like I’ve forgotten how to play games and how to drive.Īnd so these really great racing games with painstakingly recreated real world cars that I’d love to be able to admire are just like this one genre that completely mystifies me, even more than a hardcore RPG or a FIFA game. I’m as good as any Nintendo fan when it comes to Mario Kart, and sure, that spills over to plenty of other kart racers starring characters from Sonic to Crash Bandicoot to Pac-Man.
